On behalf of the American Public Education Foundation team, Central Elementary and Fillmore Elementary students and staff were invited to participate in the 5th annual National Anthem Sing-A-Long on September 11, 2018. We joined our voices together in patriotism and pride as we sung the National Anthem along with other schools across our great country. Central Elementary and Fillmore Elementary celebrated our country's resilience and freedom as we commemorated the spirit of America in remembrance of the events of September 11, 2001, as well as celebrated the anniversary of Francis Scott Key's penning of our nation's anthem (September 14, 1814). Fourth and fifth grade singers help lead the National Anthem.

The kindergarten, first, and second grade classes have been learning about percussion instruments through the story A Very Hungry Caterpillar. Students discussed the life cycle of a butterfly. We also talked about different foods and healthy habits. During the story, each day of the week, the very hungry caterpillar ate a different number of foods. This was our “cue” to tap the xylophone for each number. The students created their own "number song" to play along with the story. The students then danced and represented the sounds of Vivaldi's Spring with their scarf "butterfly wings."
